why aterra

Our approach isn’t rocket science. Answer the phone when it rings and do what you say you will do.

Business development at ATERRA focuses on word of mouth and repeat business through building strong relationships. This starts with listening to the clients desires, and executing those desires as promised. Above all else, establishing strong working relationships remains our number one goal. Do we know and do everything? No, but we likely know others that can provide help where we cannot. Business is more than transaction. We want to see you succeed and be an asset to your team.

NATE HERMAN, PE

Nate brings more than 20 years of civil design and developer experience to every project. Graduating with a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota in 2004 started his passion for land development. Working at a small design firm for 12 years, and through the recession, allowed him to wear many hats including design, drafting, project management, survey, construction observation, and CAD template settings. Deciding design was not enough, Nate worked with a local Twin Cities developer to help get projects entitled and constructed. Fast forward to 2021, Nate founded ATERRA as a response to the land developers that need more help than just design and survey. His time and experience as a land development manager has proven to be an asset to many developers.

Outside of business, Nate focuses on faith and family. His faith in Christ influences all the decisions he makes both professionally and personally. Family drives him to continually grow as a husband and father. Lake and cabin life with his wife and three kids has been a family favorite. Skiing, tubing, and pontoon cruises to the island sand bar tops the list. Nate also enjoys adventurous trips mountain biking and snowmobiling. He is an avid DIY-er. There are not too many projects he is not willing to take on. There is just not enough time in the day.

JASON LEMPOLA

With 18 years of experience in the survey and civil industry, Jason has demonstrated the ability to run projects through proper coordination between clients and project teams. Jason oversees the survey side at ATERRA, including the work of a field crew chief and CAD technician covering both the survey and civil portions of the project. He manages a project from beginning to end, including scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating with clients.  Jason is also experienced at using AutoCAD Civil 3D. He has a strong background in creating survey-based drawings, which provides a foundation for engineering plans, boundary/topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, preliminary and final plats, and easement exhibits. His experience covers both single and multi-family residential, industrial, commercial, and roadway projects. Jason’s years in project management have given him a well-rounded approach to know how a project evolves and how to develop unique solutions when creativity is needed. Jason is a graduate from Lake Superior College in Duluth with an Associate of Applied Science in Civil Engineering Technology degree.

When Jason isn’t working, he enjoys time with his family. Life is full at his house, with a wife and four kids. Most of the time is spent outside during the summer. There are plenty of activities, including walks, bike rides, time at parks, campfires, swimming, fishing, and playing with family friends. If and when time allows, there are house projects to do, and there always seem to be little hands that are asking to help.
